Max (Gerald) Mitchell Obituary

Born to George and Lazelle in La Mesa, Texas.  Max was the oldest of three children.  He is survived by his brothers Tommy and Gordon.  Max and wife, Katie, have four children, Jeff (Jana), Jerry (Kelly), Jennifer and Jonathan (Melissa); and six grandchildren, Deegan, Katelyn, Kourtney, Jacob, Chance, and Cadence.

Growing up in Chula Vista he played sports in high school playing football, baseball, and later golf.  He and his wife met in college and shared a wonderful life, celebrating 63 years of marriage!  They enjoyed raising four children and he supported each one making sacrifices to ensure he made it to each soccer, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball game to cheer them on.

He was a member of Kiwanis for years and more recently, Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed the comradery and philanthropic activities these organizations supported.  He had a strong faith in God, respecting and loving us for where we were and was a great example on how our faith guides us during our life, especially difficult times.

He knew no strangers and could strike up a conversation with anyone.  This was ever evident as he and Katie vacationed.  They met fellow avid sports fans when visiting the baseball parks, made friends on cruises and their many trips to other countries.

We loved you and will miss you husband, dad, grandpa, papa, popsicle.  We have no doubt that you went straight into your heavenly fathers waiting arms and are watching over us now.  May you rest in peace.
