Mary Rebecca (Herrold) Nelson

Mary Rebecca Herrold Nelson was born in 1929 to Arthur and Mary Herrold of Bellingham, Washington.  Mary was the fifth child of a family of five. She lived a happy childhood trailing after her older brothers and sister.   Mary graduated from LaConner high school in 1947.

   In 1950 Mary married the love of her life Eric Nelson of LaConner.  Where they set up their first home and started a family. 

    Mary loved beach-combing at Lummi Island and long lazy days by the ocean. She enjoyed camping, dancing with Eric, good friends, playing bridge, gardening, raising rabbits, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She was the Manager of Flynn’s Candle Shop and loved planning trips as a travel agent.   After retiring she became a personal assistant to Nancy Dorris, helping with writing geography texts and syllabi for Palomar Adult School.

    After living in Vista, California for 51 years, they moved to Escondido to be closer to her Family.

    Mary’s family includes her children, Kurt and Kathryn Marler of Escondido, California and Steven and Mary Beth Nelson Nelson of Bend Oregon.

Known as Grandma Bunny to her grandchildren, they include, Rebecca Marler Campbell, Jennifer Marler Volk, Kelly Nelson Klos, Stefany Marler Jackson, Brian Marler, Michele Nelson Miller, Kimberly Marler Graff and Kristin Nelson Moore. Mary has 29 great-grandchildren.  Preceding her in death was her husband Eric and her great- grandson Tyler, both in 2014. 

    Private Family Memorial will be held.
