Manuel G. Chavez “Chav”

Encinitas- Manuel Chavez passed away peacefully on Jan 28, 2020 after having pneumonia and having exhausting dialysis treatments for one year. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in September 1931 to Frances and Manuel Chavez. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1949. Manuel proudly enlisted in the US Navy on May 14, 1951 and honorably discharged from the Navy on May 13, 1955. He married the love of his life, Prudence in June 1955. After getting married and having four children, Manuel enrolled at St. Joseph College on the Rio Grande where he graduated in 1964 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He worked at Sandia Corporation until he and Prudence moved their family to San Diego in 1970. After moving to San Diego, Manuel was employed with the City of San Diego for 30 years. After retirement, Manuel enjoyed going to the “casinos”. He was also a big sports fan. His true passion was “playing the horses” and also spending time with his family. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest son “Manuel Jr”. He is survived by his wife Prudence of 65 years, his daughters Caroline and Geri and his son Dan. His grandchildren whom were his greatest pride and joy, Eddie and Brittany. His brother Tony (Albuquerque NM). Many cousins, nieces, & nephews.

Services will be held on February 25, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlsbad, CA 92008. A military service will take place following the mass at 1:30 PM at Fort Rosecrans Nation Cemetery in San Diego, CA 92106. Reception to follow at Geri’s house.
