Kristie Ann Steward

Kristie Ann (Davis) Steward was born on February 7, 1980 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Felicia Opiela.  Kristie departed this earth on Monday, September 12, 2022 in San Diego, California at the age of 42. 

As a child, Kristie grew up in Burbank, California, where her mother met, Gene Lewin.  Gene helped to raise Kristie in her younger days and became the father to her that she never had.  Kristie later moved to Vian, Oklahoma, where she was raised by her grandparents, Bill & Pat Zieler. She was a student at Vian Schools and graduated from Vian High School in 1998.  Kristie was a proud alumni Flag Twirler of the Vian Band of Gold.  Kristie kept her flag from her twirling days in her office and she still enjoyed pulling that old flag out and twirling it “like a ninja”.   

Kristie married the love her life, Chris Steward, on February 9, 2014, and they made their home in Santee, California. In 2018, Kristie and Chris quit their jobs to roam the countryside for a year in their RV.  She loved to make Chris laugh and will forever be his big spoon.

  Kristie had a wide array of interests and after high school went on to have many exciting careers, including Blackjack Dealer, Waitress/Bartender, Shaman & Healer, IT Support, and aspired to become a death doula.  In 2019, she began her career path as a Project Coordinator for Asphlund.  Kristie was attending Grossmont College, in an effort to attain her associate degree in Project Management.  In her spare time, Kristie enjoyed crocheting, making soap and candles, gardening and caring for her plants, making custom teas, listening to true crime tales, singing, dancing, and snuggling puppies. Kristie never met a stranger and had a smile that could make the sun shine on the darkest of days.  She will be remembered by those who know her best for her road trips, adventures, deep conversations, unconditional love, her humor and analogies, quotes and straight forward and to the point advice, and knowing what you need, even before you knew yourself.

Kristie is survived by her husband, Chris Steward of the home; her mother, Felicia Opiela of Vian, OK; one brother, Casey Opiela of San Diego, California; Stepfathers, Gene Lewin of Burbank, California and James Opiela of San Diego, California; Brother-in-law, Aaron Taylor and wife Haley of Ramona, California; Godson & Nephew, Ryker Orion of Ramona, California; Mother-in-Law, Karen Levell of Waco, Texas; Soul Sisters, Cheree Stewart of Santee, California,  Kristin Stewart of Escondido, California, Sarah Jeffords of San Diego, California, Lanna Gail Rolland, of Vian, OK, and Haley Poole of Ramona, California; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.

Kristie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Pat Zieler; father-in-law, Howard Taylor, and her precious dog, Duchess Daisy Mae Muffin Face the Wise.

A celebration of Kristie’s life was held Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the California Funeral Alternatives in Escondido, California.
