James Emmett McConville

James Emmett McConville, born July 15, 1934, passed peacefully on May 13, 2023.  Born in Sterling, Illinois, Jim is the son of John and Florence McConville.  While in the US Navy, Jim met Nancy Crow, originally from Lostine Oregon, while visiting Hawaii.  They married in 1960 and raised four children.  While Jim was deployed on ships, Nancy kept the family together as they moved continuously from Newport, RI, to San Diego, to Honolulu, back and forth. 

Jim had an illustrious and respected 31-year career as a US Naval Officer, retiring as a Captain in 1988.  He served honorably in the Vietnam war and was modest about his experiences.  He was known to those on the many ships he commanded, as being “tough, but fair”.

In retirement, Jim enjoyed travelling with Nancy.  They visited new places and kept in touch with family while they operated a travel agency in Ramona, CA.  Jim was preceded in death by his brother John and son Kevin.  He is survived by his wife Nancy, sons Kelly and Peter, daughter Megan and their respective spouses and children.  

A private celebration of life will be held at Miramar Military Cemetery.
