Raymond Ramsower Obituary

Raymond Ramsower passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 27th at home in Escondido at 97. He was one of the nicest people you’d ever meet and a blessing to all who knew him. Guided by his faith in God and generous nature, he quickly made friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was a role model for his family and those who knew him best. Ray is survived by his three children, Joan, Mark and Steve, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-children.

Born in Bisbee, Arizona in 1921 he worked as a miner before moving to Los Angeles to attend college in engineering. There he met Louise, the love of his life at a church volleyball game. They married and he worked as an aircraft tool designer before joining the Navy as a radar operator. After the war he worked in aircraft and aerospace engineering including being on the Tiger Team for John Glenn’s historic launch. He finished his career as the lead engineer responsible for assembly of the nuclear fusion test reactor at General Atomic in La Jolla.

His many interests included woodworking and off-roading with the Escondido Four Wheelers, a pastime still enjoyed by his family and friends. Ray and Louise appreciated the glory of God’s creation and loved the outdoors. This passion they shared with their children and through them, many others who might not have had the opportunity otherwise.

Ray was a devoted husband, father, WWII veteran and patriot who deeply loved God and his country. At 97, many good friends and his lovely wife, Louise, passed before him but he was assured they were awaiting him in heaven. He will be missed but his legacy and contributions to his family, community, church and country will be felt for years to come.

A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held for him at 10:00 am on Monday, October 15th at The Church of St. Timothy at 2960 Canyon Road Escondido, CA. An internment ceremony will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glen Ridge Rd. in Escondido. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Palomar Family YMCA in Escondido https://www.ymca.org/give
