Lyle H. Spire, 75
Lyle Homer Spire, 75, died March 26th, 2019, at Kaiser Zion Hospital in San Diego, California.
A memorial service will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on Friday, June 14th, 2019, at 11:15 AM. Lyle was born in Toledo, Iowa on September 3rd, 1943, to Lester and Laura Spire. His father was a carpenter, and his mother was a homemaker. Lyle grew up in Tama, Iowa, and grow he did. By the time he graduated Gladbrook High School in 1962, he stood at 6 foot 6 inches tall. Everyone had no choice but to look up to him. Lyle moved to California in the early 1960’s and called California home until his passing.
Lyle was a Certified Automotive Specialist for 30+ years and worked for Chevy specializing in suspension and brakes. Prior to that, Lyle had joined the United States Army in March of 1967 and was honorably discharged on April 13, 1971. Lyle’s biggest joy came from being out on a lake somewhere, fishing. He won Bass fishing tournaments and spent many hours out on the water with his friends Bob, Adrian and Jim, better known as “The Fords (Adrian & Jim) against the Chevy’s (Lyle & Bob).” Lyle also enjoyed bowling. In Lyle’s last few years you would find him in the early morning enjoying his biscuits and gravy at Shirley’s in La Mesa where he had earned the nickname “Shorty.” Lyle had a sense of humor that could make most laugh.
Lyle is survived by his brothers, Duane Spire of Valley Center, CA, and Herman Sieck of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Spire; his father, Lester Spire and his brother, Dean Sieck.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Meals on Wheels of San Diego.
Lyle’s family hopes he is out there fishing somewhere and telling us to “Kiss my Bass.” Rest in Peace Lyle, you will be missed.
