David passed away, with his family at his side, October 9 at the age of 71 after a brief illness. Raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Dave moved to Upstate New York in 1987 where he and his wife Dale made lifetime friends. With their newborn son and three other sons in tow, they relocated to California in 1993 to start up a new business for Laidlaw Medical Transportation Inc.
David graduated with an Honors BA, Business Administration from Wilfred Laurier University. His Chartered Accountant designation (similar to a CPA in the USA), led David's career to include positions of CFO and COO at various companies over the years including Laidlaw Transportation and Waste Management, Medtrans Ambulances, and Esquire Communication Ltd., and culminated in the purchase of Presidential Limousine in 2012. Dave always had time for those who worked with and for him. He genuinely cared about his office families.
At first glance, Dave could maybe seem a bit intimidating to those who didn’t know him. However, five minutes in a room with him and he would capture your heart. With his genuine and heartfelt smile, sincere eyes and his fantastically dry wit, you had no other choice than to adore him. Dave liked to say that he was always more charming by the water and proved that when he was enjoying his favorite activities of boating and going to the beach. If you asked him what his hobbies were, he would say "my family." There is no doubt that his smile would light up a room when he saw his grandchildren.
Lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Dale (nee Nicol), sons Zachary (Kate), Nathan (Courtney), Josh and Christian. Proud grandfather of Tyler, Hunter, Kylee, Clark and Meara, and big brother to Greg (Stephanie), Jim (Ann), Mark (Gloria), Jeff (Kathy) and Daniel (Carol). Predeceased by his father Daniel Higson Sr, David will always be in his mother Margaret's thoughts and in those of Uncle Vic and Aunt Sandra, and Uncle Bob and Aunt Judy, along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial to be held in Poway, California, October 28, 2018 at 2 pm at Pomerado Christian Church with a reception to follow at Urge Gastropub & Common House, San Marcos.
